About Us

The National Space Club (organized as the National Rocket Club in October 1957) was founded to stimulate the exchange of ideas and information about rocketry and astronautics, and to promote the recognition of America's achievements in aerospace.

The Club is a non-profit corporation composed of representatives of industry, government, educational institutions and private individuals who share a commitment to increasing public awareness of America's aerospace programs.

Organized into regional committees, the National Space Club is active in the major aerospace capitals in the United States. The Club's Florida Committee is complemented by National Space Club committees in Alabama, Texas, California, and other locales.

The Florida Committee, a non-proft 501(c)  corporation, is headquartered on Florida's "Space Coast," which is home to the historic launch pads of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Kennedy Space Center.

Among the annual activities sponsored by the Florida Committee is the bestowal of the prestigious Debus Award, which honors the legacy of Dr. Kurt Debus - the founding Director of Kennedy Space Center.

Like his close associate, the esteemed rocketry pioneer Dr. Wernher von Braun, Dr. Debus was a leader in the development of Florida's and the nation's space program.

The National Space Club and its Florida Committee are expressly non-partisan in their support of aerospace initiatives and achievements.

The National Space Club welcomes cooperative relationships with other organizations and individuals when addressing the broad historical, educational and business aspects of the missile and aerospace fields.

Since its incorporation, the National Space Club objectives have been consistently to

  • Promote America's space leadership through conferences and other literary and educational means.

  • Stimulate the advancement of civilian and military applications of rocketry and astronautics and related technologies for the benefit of all mankind.

  • Bring together persons from the federal government, industry, educational institutions, the press and other walks of life for the exchange of information on rocketry and astronautics, and through them to inform the public at large.

  • Provide suitable recognition and do honor to organizations and individuals who have contributed to the advancement of rocketry and astronautics.

To accomplish these objectives, the following activities are among those sponsored by the National Space Club Florida Committee:
  • Topical presentations by regional experts on aerospace issues and events of interest to the public-at-large.
  • Honoring career accomplishments of individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation's aerospace achievements in Florida.
  • Fundraising events to provide money for educational activities that will inspire students to pursue careers in aerospace.
  • Periodic newsletters to members announcing activities and programs.
